Supporting Your Family’s Mental Health Recovery
Peachford Hospital is here to serve you and your family’s behavioral healthcare needs. We aim to provide compassionate care that exceeds your expectations, but we believe that great care involves the whole family. Regardless of the program, family involvement is highly encouraged. When a loved one is admitted to our facility for treatment, staying connected to them and becoming educated about their condition is important, so we have plans, policies and programming in place that were created with both patients and family members in mind. Read on for resources and guidelines to be an effective support system.
VISITATION GUIDELINES
Visitors must leave bags, cell phones, sharp objects, cigarette lighters and matches inside their vehicles before entry. Children under the age of 12 are not allowed on the units during visiting hours. Only two visitors per patient are allowed at a time.
PARENTING CLASS
The staff at Peachford Hospital understand the challenges and joys of being a parent. We also know that children don’t come with a manual for managing their emotional and mental health needs. We want to help by offering parenting classes for families of patients enrolled in our programs as well as families from the community.
Our classes are based on the Systematic Training for Effective Parenting (STEP) program, which has 30 years of research supporting its effectiveness in improving family relationships. This coursework helps parents connect with their children through education and a better understanding of a child’s emotional being.
We recognize that past hurts and misunderstandings stemming from mental illness can lead to miscommunication and strain relationships. Our staff is trained in dealing with these issues and our classes can help guide adults through this phase of parenthood.
Parents of children of all ages will meet on Wednesdays from 2 – 3 p.m.
Class Weekly Curriculum
