Getting Psychiatric Care for Your Child

No parent wants to see their child struggling with a mental health or substance issue. It’s a difficult problem to face alone or as a family, but help is available at Peachford Hospital. We recognized that hospitalizing a child is a decision that must be made carefully and only once less restrictive alternatives have been considered or haven’t worked. As a facility and a group of compassionate professionals, our priority is to provide a secure, nurturing and therapeutic environment to meet that child’s special needs.

Peachford Hospital offers a full continuum of psychiatric programs for children ages 4 to 12. Our programs help children and families address a number of issues, such as depression, anxiety, behavioral issues, attention deficit issues and other personality disorders and mental health problems.

Our continuum of care offers inpatient and outpatient options, including:

  • Acute Inpatient
  • Partial Hospitalization
  • Intensive Outpatient
  • Individual Outpatient (Per Client)
  • Substance Abuse Treatment

TREATMENT COMPONENTS

The treatment process begins with a comprehensive evaluation to help diagnose any underlying medical or biochemical origins of disease. An individualized care plan is created to address each patient’s special needs. Treatment for each child is administered by a multidisciplinary, psychiatrist-led team of mental health professionals that may include nurses, social workers, case managers, activity therapists and program specialists. When outpatient therapy is deemed to be the most effective course of treatment, Peachford Hospital provides a variety of outpatient services as well as a referral network to area health professionals.

Therapeutic components may include:

  • Group therapy
  • Family therapy
  • Full-time school
  • Recreational therapy
  • Activity therapy
  • Pharmacotherapy

FAMILY PARTICIPATION

Treatment plans focus on attainable short-term and long-term goals. These are established with input from the child’s family and referring professionals. Active family involvement in treatment is critical, as children are significantly influenced by their home environment. Resources like our Parenting Classes educate and support parents walking through this process with their child. Upon successful completion of treatment, a follow-up aftercare program is available at no charge to help children and families support continued rehabilitation and wellness.
