Hospitalizing a child is a decision that must be made carefully and only once less restrictive alternatives have been considered and deemed inappropriate. After that careful consideration, our first priority is to provide a safe, nurturing and therapeutic environment to meet that child’s special needs.
Peachford’s Child Psychiatric Program is designed for children from ages four to 12.
Treatment for each child is administered by a multidisciplinary team of mental health professionals led by a psychiatrist.
- Social workers
- Case managers
- Activity therapists
- Program specialists
The treatment process begins with a comprehensive evaluation to help diagnose any underlying medical or biochemical origins of disease and an individualized care plan is created to address each patient’s special needs. When outpatient therapy is deemed to be the most effective course of treatment, Peachford Hospital provides a variety of outpatient services as well as a referral network to area health professionals.
- Group therapy
- Family therapy
- Full-time school
- Recreational therapy
- Activity therapy
Treatment plans focus on attainable short-term and long-term goals established with input from the child’s family and referring professional. Active family involvement in treatment is critical, as children are significantly influenced by their home environment.
