Like adults, many adolescents suffer with mental illnesses ranging from severe depression to personality disorders and other psychiatric problems. Some may become defiant, withdrawn or even suicidal. Drug and alcohol addiction are becoming more common and serious among teenagers as well and can easily destroy young lives. Our Adolescent Treatment Program is geared toward helping adolescents increase self-esteem and take responsibility for their behavior without turning to drugs or alcohol for help.
Our Program Continuum
Adolescent Treatment Components
Treatment for each adolescent is administered by a multidisciplinary team of mental health professionals led by a psychiatrist.
- Internal medicine physician
- Social workers
- Case managers
- Activity therapists
- Substance abuse counselors
The treatment process begins with a comprehensive evaluation to help diagnose any underlying medical or biochemical origins of disease. An individualized care plan is written to meet the special needs of each patient.
If outpatient therapy is deemed to be the most effective course of treatment, Peachford offers a variety of outpatient services as well as a referral network to area health professionals.
- Family therapy
- Group therapy
- Drug and alcohol education
- Accredited school program
- Recreational therapy
- Activity therapy
- Pet therapy
- Medication education
The treatment plan focuses on attainable short-term and long-term goals established with input from the teenager’s family and referring professional. Substance abuse treatment follows the 12-Step philosophy, while aftercare groups and counseling provide continued support for the adolescent and his or her family post-discharge. Family participation is a vital component of adolescent treatment at Peachford and is designed to promote understanding and effective communication.
Because psychiatric problems may be complicated by a coexisting substance abuse problem, Peachford provides specialized treatment for adolescents with dual diagnosis issues.
