The decision to hospitalize a child must be made carefully and only after less restrictive alternatives have been considered and deemed inappropriate. The first concern of our program is to provide a safe, nurturing, and therapeutic environment for a child’s special needs.
Our Program Continuum
The Child Psychiatric Program is designed for children, ages 4 – 12. The following care options are available:
Treatment for each child is administered by a multi-disciplinary team of mental health professionals led by a psychiatrist. Team members may include:
- Social Workers
- Case managers
- Activity Therapists
- Program specialists
The treatment process begins with comprehensive evaluation to help diagnose any underlying medical or biochemical origins of disease and an individualized plan of care is written for each patient’s special needs.
When outpatient therapy is deemed to be the most effective course of treatment, Peachford Hospital provides a variety of outpatient services as well as a referral network to area health professionals.
Therapeutic components may include:
- group therapy
- family therapy
- full-time school
- recreational therapy
- activity therapy
The treatment plans focuses on attainable short and long-term goals established with input from the child’s family and referring professional. Active family involvement in treatment is critical, as children are significantly influenced by their home environment.
